Hi List.
I am regreasing two old Zeiss lamp houses.
Any recommendation on what grease to use?
My guess it has to be something with a high temperature stability.

Which lamp housing are you working with and which part are you lubricating?
When you say "old" do mean the grey ones? Xe, Hg, Tungsten filament?

Dear Dan.
I have two of them, grey ones.
100W Tungsten house from Zeiss Jena Docuval
And 100W Mercury from Zeiss Jena Fluoval 2.
I am regreasing lamp alignment mechanism. Most of screws ceased to move so
I took it apart and washed in isopropyl alcohol. Now I put it back but I am
not sure which grease to use.
I would use a white lithium grease but I am not sure it will be up to the
task.

I'd use silicone vacuum grease. It may not have the best lubricating
properties, but it's compatible with most materials, and very stable. I've
used it on many old microscope parts, but I have yet to live long enough to
see how it performs after few decades.

Hi
I was warned against silicone grease in microscope since it has affinity to
glass  and tends to spread around.
At the end I wrote to a microscope service and repair company located in
Poland
They recommended this grease.
GRIZZLYGREASE No. 3

I was not able to get it but I think G-1/3 will do the job. It has 175 C
working temperature maximum and no dropping point. remainings of the old
grease looked like a normal grease so I did not use antistucking  grease
with 1000 C tripping point and a lot of Cu.
