Does anyone know of a good article/book/book chapter reviewing lasers for microscopy or how to pick a laser when building a microscope?

All the best,

Claire

Hi Claire,

I can highly recommend the book "Building Electro-Optical Systems: Making It all Work" by Philip C. D. Hobbs (chapter 2) and the free Technical Guide by CVI Melles Griot (chapter 10): https://www.idex-hs.com/literature-tools/literature-downloads/brochures-guides/cvi-melles-griot-technical-guide/

They might be a bit too technical for your purpose. But they will help you to understand the full spec sheet of lasers which ultimately drives every decision-making process.

Best regards,

Ulrike

I second the recommendation of "Building Electro-Optical Systems: Making It
all Work" I wish I had the book 10 yeas ago.
I can also recommend this one:
Sun, Haiyin. 2012. Laser Diode Beam Basics, Manipulations and
Characterizations. SpringerBriefs in Physics. Dordrecht: Springer
Netherlands.
Or you can get newer edition from 2015.
Best.
Petro.
