Leica SP5, spectral slider jamming, malfunction

Hi all,
[I am new to the group, I have tried to post it through email list but not sure why it is not coming up. Here I am posting it again. Sorry if it is duplicate for some people.]

We have Leica, SP5/MP system, ~3 years old. Although the system was not heavily used, we have encountered multiple repairs in the past. Today I am going to ask about Spectral Sliders.

The spectral slider pos.1 has been changed 2 years ago and now it is jammed and not functioning again. It is annoying that these costs a lot to get them fixed and also annoying that we do not have a guarantee that the same problem will not occur in the near future.  I wonder whether SP5 users had similar issues ( jamming of the moving parts, mirrors etc for SP5). Do you have any suggestions /tips why would it get jammed frequently ?

thanks

Re: Leica SP5, spectral slider jamming, malfunction

Hi Deniz,
We also have a Leica SP5, which is 4 years old, it is quite heavily used
though.  We had one of the detector sliders jammed and repaired, fortunately
for us this occurred in the 2year warranty period that we got. After that we
got the error message several times again, however without the slider being
truly irreversibily jammed and restart of the sytem would solve the problem.
We were told by the Leica service engineer to avoid moving the sliders over
too long a wavelength distance in the software (like in an extreme example
you would do by asking detector 5 to detect in the green range)to avoid the
this and haven't had problems since.

Els

Deniz,
I'm sure Leica has contacted you about this already, but I was out of the office when this original message arrived, and thought I'd share my experience.

We experienced jamming on our SP5 system the first year we had it, but I believe a software upgrade solved it, as it has not recurred in the past three years.

Good luck,
