Are you there to serve the IT dept or the other way around. I am still running several instruments under WinXP and only have one running Win10. The IT dept told me they were disconnecting all XP machines. I explained that they could do that if they had the cash to update our confocals and widefields. They decided to put our equipment (and that of a few other groups) on our own LAN. We have not had a problem since. This is a good thing since I do not have funds to pay replacement computer prices, inflated manufacturer rates or any other. Our only Win10 system is a real pain because so far I have only found out how to delay updates but, not how to block them entirely. I like to do the updates manually at a time when I can reverse them if needs be. For example, the last win10 update killed LASX and had to be reversed. So now if I don't get a patch from Leica, in the next couple of weeks Win10 will auto-update and kill the system again and I cannot stop it.
