SMLM Challenge 2016: Competition starts today!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

We are excited to announce the official start of the 2016 localization microscopy challenge (http://bigwww.epfl.ch/smlm/challenge2016/)

- The competition runs from 15.06 to 15.07

New for this year:

- Continuation of the 2D challenge with new datasets and structures

- Extension of the challenge to 3D localization microscopy in 4 modalities: 2D, 3D astigmatism, 3D biplane and 3D double helix

- Ultra realistic simulation using experimentally derived PSFs, 4-state photophysics model and updated noise model.

- participation

              - is free, open to everybody, academic or commercial software, welcome to new software and young researchers

             - is easy: choose at least one category (2D, AS, DH, BP) and upload your localization files (+some description on the software)

              - gives high visibility to your work, in the web site, at the SMLMS conference

              - gives an access to reference datasets and a detailed report of the performance of your software compared to others

              - an opportunity to win some awards!

- We are providing

              - reference datasets: beads / training / contest are online

              - common metrics to benchmark the software

Participation to the challenge just requires registration (just an  email to ([hidden email]<mailto:[hidden email]> ) with contact / name of the software).

We are also excited to announce that the LM challenge 2016 review and awards will be hosted in a special session at the 2016 SMLMS conference (http://smlms.epfl.ch/ ) on the 28th of August, in Switzerland, giving competitors the opportunity to present their software to the community. We encourage you to register / submit an abstract to the SMLMS conference. Attendance at SMLMS is of course not required to compete. Note: If you are submitting a software talk to the LM challenge special session, please put "LM challenge session submission" at the top of your abstract.

This promises to be an exciting and competitive challenge. Already 26 software teams have announced their intention to take part; more and more are registering!

Best wishes
