Hi-  We have a Horiba Xplora confocal Raman microscope equipped with a Marzhauser stage for control in xyz.  After a move, literally to a nearby table, the Horiba program cannot communicate with the Marzhauser stage.  Marzhauser technical service has sent their problem assessment program "switchboard" but it also cannot see the board.  I can't tell if it is the board or the communication with the "virtual com port".  Has anyone else had this sort of problem?  Any pointers?  Thank you in advance for your help, Laurel

Dear Laurel,

first an IT Crow kind of question: did you try re-seating the board? I had similar kind of issues with another PCI controller card which disappeared when I physically removed and re-inserted the card. The same with some RAM modules.

Another question (since you didn't say it): did you make ANY software changes to your system during the move?

Hi Mika-
Thank you for your suggestions.  I have reseated the board and not changed the software.  Unfortunately, this didn't work.  I've tried the board in another computer now (different operating system, updated drivers) and found that the same issues have occurred.  I fear the board has been damaged.  Ugh.
Thank you for your help & best wishes, Laurel

Hi Laurel,

We had a similar problem with a Ludl shutter/filter wheel controller (MAC6000)  which was run through a Virtual COM port after we bought a new computer once. I don't know if it will help at all but I'll send you the instructions (offline as I don't think I can send a PDF to this list) so you can see if there's anything there that might help. One thing that was important was not to have the USB connected when the Virtual Com Port driver was installed.

Kind regards,

Jacqui
