Merritt Microscopy Program: instructors? interns? jobs?

Hi.  The Merritt Microscopy Program has some openings for part-time
instructors this spring (and beyond) for the intro, very basic level
course on optical microscopy and a short-term (sundays in feb) course
in good lab practices.  Please contact me if you're interested!

Also, I have three top students who did international internships,
but are looking for local internships right now, if  you need an
extra pair of trained hands!

I've written about the program before on the listserve, but, here's a
quick reminder/summary.

Our program is just one year old.  Our first cohort of students is
getting ready to graduate in March and they're available for hire!
They're amazing people, really smart, motivated, hard working and
well trained!  Some are willing to relocate, but most are seeking
jobs in the Bay Area.

Check out our website:  www.merritt.edu/microscopy.  It's a little
out of date in some of the details, but the jist of it is correct.
We have a slew of great microscopes and train our students both in
the theory and the practice of transmitted light and fluorescence
techniques, along with general lab and business skills.  Our students
come from a wide variety of backgrounds, but most have had other
careers already (including in photography, computers, etc.).  We're
training folks for careers in imaging cores, research labs, biotech,
sales, and so forth.

I'd love to get feedback, ideas, comments, etc. from this listserve,
so please email me if you have any ideas, or would like to connect
with the program in any way.  We have an advisory board that guides
us, and I'm always interested in new members and in input from the
community, not to mention job leads, supplies, collaborations,
curriculum resources, etc.

We have nearly 20 imaging systems, all four major brands, all levels
from totally manual to fully motorized widefield (Nikon 80is).  We
have a brand new Leica Spinning disc system (with incubation chamber)
and are getting a Leica SP5 soon and setting up a tissue culture
facility.  At some point we'll offer scope time to paying users, but,
right now, you can get free scope time if you host an intern!

Save the date:  we're having an open house on Friday, Jan. 23rd, from
4-7:30.  There will be tours, demos, student presentations.  All ages
and interest levels are welcome!  Feel free to bring your own
specimen to image.

regards,
