This position is located on the Statesboro campus. In January 2017, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted to consolidate Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University. The new, 27,000-student university will be named Georgia Southern University with campuses in Savannah, Statesboro, and Hinesville. Within this setting, the Department of Biology located on the Statesboro campus consists of a diverse faculty of teacher-scholars who excel at providing transformative experiences to students. Our faculty and students thrive as life-long learners in the incredible natural research setting of South Georgia*, *which includes the coastal plain, sea islands and estuaries in and around the communities of Savannah, Statesboro and Hinesville*. *The Department of Biology is housed in three buildings, including the new 158,000-square-foot Biological Sciences Building. *Position Description*. Reporting to the department chair, this position will provide support in the enabling of research and maintenance and supervision of specialized science equipment specific to the assigned area of study in both Biology and Chemistry, as a shared appointment. Equipment includes two JEOL scanning electron microscopes and a ZEISS multiphoton confocal microscope with Airyscan. Position will also provide support in maintaining departmental inventory and laboratory safety. Other duties as assigned by department chair. The position is an academic 12-month, non-tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. *Required Qualifications:* • Earned master’s degree in Biological Sciences or a closely related field by December 31, 2017 • Three or more years of work related experience in the field of microscopy including but not limited to confocal microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, live imaging, scanning and transmission electron microscopy • Ability to work with other University scientists to offer annual workshops and training programs for students and faculty highlighting existing and new microscopy instrumentation and technology *Preferred Qualifications:* • Background in scientific/laboratory management • Knowledge of funded research administrative procedures • Excellent writing and communication skills • Proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office applications Screening of applications begins March 1, 2018, and continues until the position is filled.
