Duration: 3 years, with the potential of becoming a permanent position according to existing rules.Please read more about BRIC (Biotech Research & Innovation Center) on www.bric.ku.dk Job description An enthusiastic microscopist is required to maintain the many microscopes within the BRIC and provide training to new users, including PhD and postdoctoral fellows. Among the microscopes in the facility are confocal (Zeiss and Leica), a Leica TIRF microscope and Deltavision wide field live cell microscope capable of fluorescence, FRET and bright field. In addition there are numerous laboratory microscopes for routine methods. A further responsibility will be to provide training and troubleshooting in microscopy and in imaging software. Close collaboration with user groups to further their research activities will be essential. It is expected that the Microscopy Scientist will take an active interest in current research within BRIC. As part of that, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing information to groups at BRIC regarding new technological developments that aid current research. Qualifications We expect you to be a highly motivated and highly ambitious scientist with the following qualifications: Education to PhD level or equivalent research experience Extensive experience in light microscopic techniques, including confocal, live cell and other advanced research microscope techniques is required Previous experience with imaging software, such as Volocity, Metamorph, Image J etc is highly desirable Good communication skills and ability to provide guidance, instruction and assistance to major user groups Excellent English skills Place of employment The employment is at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. BRIC is located in the Biocenter, close to the centre of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a young, dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and a number of core facilities shared between the 19 (soon 20) research groups at BRIC and the neighbour Finsen laboratory. We have weekly journal clubs, data clubs, seminars with invited speakers, a young researchers club ASAP and our own PhD programme, MoMeD. Terms of salary and employment The appointment is for 3 years and scheduled to start April 2013. Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. Depending on qualifications, a higher salary may be negotiated.
