Position as Head Engineer/ Microscopy/Imaging specialist available at NorMIC Oslo
National Imaging Facility, a Eurobioimaging node candidate, Department of
Biosciences.

The position funded by the Norwegian Research Council and is for 3 years with the
possibility of prolongation .Anticipated start date is August, 2016.

Job description

The National Imaging Core Facility NorMIC Oslo at the Department of Biosciences,
University of Oslo, is seeking an imaging specialist head engineer to support our
daily operation through planning and execution of activities at the imaging node.
We are an ALM (advanced light microscopy) facility and have at present 7 imaging
set-ups ranging from widefield and TIRF imaging to optical tweezers on a confocal
microscope and standard confocal and high throughput imaging. Main research
areas are dynamics of intracellular vesicle traffic, fusion, fission, cell division, cell
migration and immune cell interactions. This year we will acquire further imaging
equipment based on a recent infrastructure grant (Superresolution, light sheet,
high throughput). The imaging specialist will be instrumental in purchasing and
building up further imaging set ups.

NorMIC Oslo is ratified as a node for Euro-BioImaging and we are also member of
the Norwegian Nor-BioImaging. NorMIC Oslo is located at two sites: 1) the
Department of Biosciences at the main campus of University of Oslo, Blindern,

The platform has a focus on live imaging for tissue culture and most microscopes
are equipped with incubators for stable temperature and CO2. The unit offers
expertise and technical assistance in a range of advanced light microscopes
including confocal laser scanning instruments, spinning disc confocal, TIRF,
specialized confocal with two independent lasers for FRAP, optical tweezers, and
widefield fluorescence systems as well as access to immuno-EM techniques ,
super-resolution techniques (Structured Illumination Microscopy, SIM), immuno-
electron microscopy and CLEM.

Qualifications

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being
a leading research faculty. Candidates for this position will be selected in
accordance with this.

The applicants must have a Bachelor degree, but the candidate should preferably
have a minimum of a master degree with at least 3 years' experience past master.

The candidate must preferentially have experience with high-end 2D and 3D
imaging and/or high throughput imaging techniques using confocal and other kinds
of microscopy. Data handling and analysis with imaging software such as ImageJ,
Imaris, Cell Profiler (or equivalent) is also beneficial.

Other skills desired: experience with sample preparation, cell biology experiments,
general tissue culture techniques and basic knowledge of programming for data
analysis and statistics.

It is expected that the imaging specialist interact with other imaging facilities,
especially within the Eurobioimaging network, attend meetings, develop own
projects and in general keep updated.

Salary:

Position code 1087, Pay Grade:  53-60 (NOK 452 400 – 510 100 per year,
depending on qualification and seniority)
