Research Assistant:  Green Chemistry and Green Chemicals Research in Pharmacology

There is an opening for a Research Assistant who will work on projects focused on the creation of new toxicology platforms, based on real-time assessment of the effects of molecules identified as putative green chemicals. The goal of this research is to discover new ways to evaluate and predict toxicity by developing novel approaches, predominately based on monitoring of disruption of molecular signalling pathways at the cell, tissue and whole animal levels.

The specific work objectives related to the project include overseeing the day-to-day operations of core infrastructures for: 1) a high content imaging platform; 2) cell, tissue and non-invasive whole animal imaging, including a multiphoton microscope; 3) molecular analyses of the basis for changes in phenotypic expression, including analysis of gene expression and epigenetic regulation; and 4) a computer network, including software upgrades, security, creating user and system menus, monitoring usage and performing system back-ups.

Working under the primary supervision of Drs. Hales, Robaire and Hébert, this Research Assistant will:

1.      Design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and write scientific papers.
2.      Introduce new experimental procedures and establish new and improved protocols.
3.   Coordinate experiments and data collection with investigators.
4.   Present results at national and international conferences.
5.   Compile files and prepare report to be submitted to granting agencies for progress reports.
6.   Publish results in peer-reviewed journals
7.   Organize, distribute and verify the work of others, including research personnel, students (undergraduates and graduates) and postdoctoral fellows, and participate in their training with different established and current methods.
 8.   Develop procedures and make recommendations to improve unit efficiency.
 9.   Coordinate the installation and provision of equipment. Maintain records and files for instruments and services.
