Are the blocks in plastic? Will your colleagues section on a standard microtome or an ultramicrotome?

https://us.vwr.com/store/catalog/product.jsp?catalog_number=25608-964Whether you use high or low profile depends on the hardness of the sample. We use low profile blades for most paraffin embedded tissues, except, occasionally, bone, which sometimes warrants high profile.
I think it is possible to section plastic blocks on a standard microtome, but I've never done it and I imagine you'd need a special cassette to mount it in the cutting arm.
We only use a diamond knife with our ultramicrotome, though. I'm not sure there's a way to use regular microtome blades on an ultramicrotome.

A colleague in another department needs to use a "microtome knife. She needs to section 2-3 small blocks. This is for a paper they are planning to submit soon. They would not need the use of a TEM. How much would that cost roughly?
