Microwave processor- Pelco Biowave

Dear Microscopy specialists,
I’m seeking for some feedback on the use of the microwave Pelco Biowave from Ted Pella.
Using low power microwave energy, several papers promote the benefits of this machine allow to cut the time for fixation and the immunostaining by 10 to 60 times. The samples (can be culture cells, brain tissue, plant, other) integrity will be equal or better to conventional bench-based immunolabelling  technic.
I would like to buy it, but my users are not unanimously convinced that it works well on animal  tissue...
Any positive or negative feedbacks will be appreciated:
For how long have you used a Biowave with the ColdSpot?
Is it difficult to operate?
Is it difficult to optimize the workflow and find the  optimal settings?
Do you use it regularly?
Would you recommend it

We have extensive experience with microwave tissue processing and find that it helps significantly. The oven we use is the MRA BP111RS. It requires no “Cold Spot” which makes it a bit easier to use.

Hi Chloë:

        Our core uses the BioWave. We bought it in 2012 and now process most of our samples in it although we still use the oven for polymerization of the resin. It speeds up processing in our lab greatly. Complex protocols such as the ROTO staining for volume EM drop from 24 hours to 90 minutes. It paid for itself in technicians salary saved in about 6 months. It has been reliable, easy to operate and is easy to program for standard protocols. It produces great results even with difficult samples like plant tissue. I’d recommend it highly.
