You can make your own mirrored slides with metal evaporation in a vacuum evaporator, or in a sputter coater. 100% reflectance could be an issue, as that requires a thick coat of metal (time depends on metal and etc.), but you could work out the coating rate and produce mirrors that reflect X% and transmit 100-X%, “X” as needed (like 50/50 or 20/80, etc.). It worked much better to silver a coverslip and glue it to a glass slide with the silver 'inside'. Still it did not last very long... Protected Al is much better, of course. Also, neither glass slides nor coverslips are flat, so it is useless for anything else than reflecting a laser beam back to a microscope objective... When I need a cheap mirror for experiments, I look into some old data projector (dielectric mirrors and filters) or a flatbed scanner (very good first surface metallic mirrors), though the dimensions are quite different from a glass slide (usually much thicker and narrower). All set. Doesn't need to be crazy precise. https://opticalmirror.com/ This place lets you order them in any size you want. Slide dimensions (3"x1"x1mm) is $20 for 1, less if you order more. In this way, you would be imaging the mirror surface through the coverslip and thereby getting the best optical performance. Leica uses this to align the pinhole in their confocal systems. However I would remind everyone that this is not a good way to characterize the optical sectioning ability of a microscope - a thin fluorescent film should be used instead. best wishes, Guy Hagen On Wed, Jul 26, 2017 at 10:08 AM, Gary Laevsky <[hidden email]> wrote: > ***** > To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: > http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy > Post images on http://www.imgur.com and include the link in your posting. > ***** > > Hi All, > > Thanks for the suggestions.
