The Advanced BioImaging Facility (ABIF) is pleased to announce the Montreal Light Microscopy Course (MLMC) Fundamentals 2017!

MLMC Fundamentals will be hosted at McGill University from February 27th to March 3rd 2017. The course will cover light microscopy theory and techniques in the morning followed by hands-on laboratory activities in the afternoon. This will give attendees a lot of opportunities to apply the lecture material! Alongside the course's practical applications to your research, there will be plenty of networking opportunities with fellow researchers and professionals in the field. This will include networking events on Monday and Wednesday evenings.



The course will close out with a Plenary Lecture by Dr. Alanna Watt, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology, McGill University. She will wrap up the course by showcasing how she uses light microscopy in her research development of plasticity of neuronal circuits.



Topics that will be covered at MLMC:

- Optics: light matter interactions, basic optics, image formation, magnification, resolution

- Transmitted light techniques: phase contrast, DIC, darkfield, polarized light

- Fluorescence microscopy: dyes, filters, mirrors, light sources, and detectors

- Practical microscopy: digital imaging, quantitative microscopy, and widefield deconvolution

- Optical sectioning techniques: laser scanning confocal, resonant scanning, spinning disk, and live cell imaging

- Advanced techniques: co-localization, photo-manipulation, 3D image processing and analysis

- Imaging ethics and preparing images for publication
