Full-time Morphometrics Image Analysis Position available at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA
at the level of Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Technician II

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home of three Nobel laureates, is an independent, nonprofit research institution dedicated to the development and advancement of biomedical research to eliminate cancer and other potentially fatal diseases. Recognized internationally for its pioneering work in bone-marrow transplantation, the Center’s four scientific divisions collaborate to form a unique environment for conducting basic and applied science.

The postdoctoral research fellow or Research Technician II will work closely with several cell biology groups to develop research driven image analyses based on light microscopy data. Current topics include research associated with nuclear architecture/organization, nuclear dynamics, cell morphology/migration, and wound repair in mammalian tissue culture cells and model organisms (see http://research.fhcrc.org/hatch/en.html or http://research.fhcrc.org/parkhurst/en.html).

Responsibilities

Customizing existing image analysis software and developing new computer algorithms and strategies to generate, analyze, and quantify both 2D and 3D light microscopy images in various research model systems.

Qualifications

  *      Experience with computer programming, preferably in Matlab, Python, or R, is required.
  *      Experience in analysis of microscopy data and familiarity with image analysis programs, such as FIJI and Metamorph, is required.
  *      Familiarity with data-driven discovery (machine learning, computer vision) is preferred.

For Postdoc position:

  *     Depending on interest and experience level, opportunities exist to use part of this position to develop an independent cell biology research project within one or more of the participating labs.
  *      A PhD in biology or a related field is required.
  *      The successful candidate will be a driven individual capable of independent research, as demonstrated by first author publication(s) and presentations, and superior written and oral communication skills.

For Research Tech II position:

  *     A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, computer science, physics, or a related field is required.
  *     The ideal candidate will have superior communication skills and work ethic, and be skilled in multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities.

Please apply with a cover letter summarizing previous work experience and research interests, a CV, and contact information for three professional references to Dr. Emily Hatch ([hidden email]<mailto:[hidden email]>) or Dr. Susan Parkhurst ([hidden email]<mailto:[hidden email]>).
