For non-TIRF coverslips, I usually use Mowiol but I'm fed up with poor conservation (at 4°C, after one month the autofluorescence just ruins the signal) and lack of reliability (quality is very variable from one preparation to another). What mounting medium could replace Mowiol for fluorescently labeled, fixed, cultured cells? It would be better if it was hard-setting (or gel) and doesn't require sealing with nail polish or VALAP.
