I would like to through my hat into the ring, and strongly recommend Google
SketchUp for designing room layouts.
2D layouts fail to give a sense of how much room will be available for users to
move about, especially for clearance around doors. Best of all, it is FREE.

intuitive once you watched the first couple of them. Plan to spend some time,
and don't try it with a laptop trackpad.
