2014 Northeast Regional Life Sciences Core Directors Meeting

The ninth annual Northeast Regional Life Sciences Core Directors (NERLSCD) meeting will be held October 1-3, 2014, at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany, NY, jointly hosted by the Wadsworth Center, the State University of New York at Albany (SUNY-Albany) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

This year's multi-institutional focus has produced a truly interdisciplinary program. The NERLSCD meeting (often called the NERDS meeting) is an outstanding regional forum for core facility administrators, directors, managers and staff to network with colleagues, to learn about biotechnology advances and their applications, and to discuss the challenges of implementing shared research resources.  This year's meeting will have evening sessions to allow the meeting to conclude at noon on the last day. The 2014 meeting will feature:
. Keynote address by Nathan Blow, Ph.D., Editor-in-Chief of BioTechniques: The International Journal of Life Science Methods, on reproducibility in the life sciences, a topic featured in several recent editorials
. Panel sessions on commercialization and licensing of biotechnologies.
. Presentations and discussion forums on operational issues facing biotechnology core laboratories.
. Scientific presentations and technical workshops, with a focus on genomics, proteomics, flow cytometry, imaging and microscopy.
. Poster session that offers attendees an opportunity to present posters describing their core services and to learn about regional life sciences shared resources. New this year, attendees can rent LCD-TV displays to present electronic posters (ePosters) at the poster session. Also new this year, the poster session will include vendor ePoster presentations.
. Opening reception and numerous opportunities to network with colleagues.
. Satellite conference events will include:
o New York Core Administration Network (NY-CAN) Meeting
o Standards in Light Microscopy Meeting
o Tours of core facilities at all three hosting institutions

Cost: Registration for this year's meeting is $150/per attendee. After August 15th, registration will increase to $200. Attendees will be responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses, but most meals are provided. NERLSCD has arranged rooms at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center for a rate of $135/night. Please make your own reservations at the hotel.
