We have an Andor CSU-W1 that we would like to transition over to control with Elements. We have been able to switch over almost all of the components to Elements control, but have been stuck with the Andor ILE laser launch platform, as there is no option for controlling it with Elements. We would of course be interested to hear if anyone has ideas about this. If anything we have done so far to get the other components running with Elements can be helpful, feel email me directly and we can set up a call. Thanks! But our laser box from Andor is ALC. There is a NIS driver for it. Might be different from the one you have. We have had no problem integrating all other elements but the only Andor parts are the laser box and the cameras. That's what we have and we're happy with it. 2) Cheaper home-brew solution along the same lines would be a cheap DA converter that can be controlled with serial (COM) commands, such as Arduino (https://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/AnalogInOutSerial). Unfortunately, Arduino Due has only 2 DAC outputs, and the PWM output speed is quite limited (1 kHz), resulting in slow response (after heavy filtering). 3) Third, software solution would be direct control of the ILE over serial (COM) interface, but I don't have the commands description. Provided they're simple enough, you might be able to figure it out with a COM traffic sniffer. This document: http://squishycell.uchicago.edu/manuals/LMM5%20Software%20Manual%20RS232%20Rev%20A.pdf might be useful, chances are that LMM5 and ILE use similar control strategy. Once you have a way to control the ILE with serial commands, you can build a logical device in NIS Elements and use WritePort() or WritePortEx() or something like this to control the intensity. Depending on your control needs, buying two of those might be more cost effective if you need to control up to four lasers. They are also USB connected so you can get away with using any computer without having to worry about internal space for PCIe cards. Note that they are slow (5kS/s), so if you are trying to do something fancy like end-of-line blanking or similar they might not work, but if you just need to digitally control the output of your laser they get the job done.
