Hi all,

I have a Nikon SMZ1500 in which the zoom mechanism has slipped, so that the
zoom no longer works - no movement.  There are some white plastic gears
that are the problem, but I can't access them, due to the plastic shell.
So I'm trying to get the shell off but it seems I need to remove the focus
knobs.  I've got fine focus off but how to take off the gear cluster?  Or
is there a better way to access the zoom gears- drill out a little arc of
the plastic?

Hi Dan,

in your configuration zoom mechanism is completely independent of focus knobs.

Please loosen the slotted screw below the click stop.
Then you can remove the whole zoom body from the focus mechanism by sliding it upwards.

After this you should be able to access the zoom body.
