Nikon to Zeiss thread adaptor

Hello,
We have a Zeiss axioObserver and we are trying to figure out whether we can
attach a Piezo nanopositioner that is currently installed on a Nikon
TE2000-s scope. The piezo is old and may not have the quicklock adaptor.  

I was wondering if someone knew whether a Nikon to Zeiss adaptor is readily
available at someplace for this purpose?

Just for the purposes of full disclosure, I have previously (1998-2001)
worked for a Nikon Microscopes dealer.  I now work for myself as an Image
Analysis and Microscopy Consultant.

The Nikon TE2000-s microscope is part of the Eclipse series and uses the
most recent revision of Nikon objectives.  Nikon Eclipse microscopes use
the "new" CFI-60 objectives which have M25 threads, while Zeiss still uses
the RMS (Royal Microscopy Society) standard. The M25 designation refers to
the diameter of the thread in mm.  The RMS specification calls of a 0.8
inch thread diameter (

which is significantly smaller.

While it is possible to buy (I think) or make an adapter that will fit an
RMS threaded objective on to a scope that uses M25 threads, I doubt that
the reverse is true.  An adapter that mounts a CFI-60 objective (or
compatible mount) on an RMS scope would necessarily move the object being
adapted at least 3-4 mm further away from the nose piece of the microscope,
resulting in:
1. Unknown magnification (although this can be easily measured).
2. Parfocality issues.
3. Danger of banging the adapted objective into the slide after using a
standard objective.

Also keep in mind the the CFI-60 objectives are not just bigger around than
the RMS objectives they tend to be longer as well.

Zeiss uses the M27 thread in their new microscope stands. This is significantly larger than the old Zeiss mount, and a bit larger than Nikon. Zeiss makes adapters from the old to the new M27 mount, so it should be possible to get similar adapters from for Nikon objectives on the new Zeiss scopes. In fact, I think Zeiss even has adapters to mount the new larger objectives on the older scopes. However, all caveats mentioned by Chris remain valid. In particular, Nikon objectives are huge compared to Zeiss (Nikon 60x/1.4 Plan Apo is about 2 longer than the equivalent Zeiss.

commercial interest)

Sorry, I read the post a bit too quickly... Are you planning to mount the Nikon piezo with a Nikon objective on a Zeiss scope? because of the size of Nikon objectives, maybe an older Zeiss mount would work better...i.e. find adapter to mount Nikon piezo on Zeiss scope, and then adapter to mount old Zeiss objective on Nikon piezo... these should both be possible.

Thor Labs may have such adapters...

OK. In that case, you should be able to get both adapters from ThorLabs (step down from Zeiss M27 to Nikon, and step down from Nikon to Zeiss 0.8). These are quite cheap, so it's probably worth a try.
