Dear colleagues,
The Advanced Imaging Center (AIC) at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Janelia Research Campus is looking to hire an Imaging Data Scientist who is eager and qualified to tackle emerging problems in bioimage data analysis in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary ecosystem.
The Data Scientist will work with a wide range of images generated on the some of the most cutting edge instruments developed at Janelia, including the lattice light sheet microscopy, interferometric PALM, live cell multicolored 3D structured illumination microscopy, multifocus microscopy, expansion microscopy as well as instruments equipped with adaptive optics. Due to the global scale of the AIC open-access policy, the Data Scientist will also have the unique opportunity to work with scientists from all over the world, and on bioimage challenges varying from cell biology, cancer, neuroscience, engineered tissue organoids, plants, to marine biology. The Data Scientist will also have ample opportunity to interact with Janelia’s Scientific Computing group as well as other international consortia.
We are *NOT* looking for an image analyst whose expertise is limited to using only existing software packages. In addition to occasionally helping visitors on commercial/open source software, the ideal Data Scientist is expected to bring his/her own science into tackling hitherto unsolved problems in image analysis, and to be able to devise novel methodologies and algorithms to analyze data generated on pre-commercial instruments. Experience and expertise in data-driven discovery (machine learning, computer vision) is strongly preferred.
Ph.D. in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, physics or related field, or equivalent in education and experience is required.
