Dear Confocal List users:
I would like to announce an open position at Duke University, North Carolina. We are looking for a manager for a newly established microscopy facility with a range of state-of-the-art microscopes (including a lattice lightsheet, a serial sectioning, and a multiphoton pump-probe microscope). A brief description is included below. We are trying to fill this position as soon as possible. Please forward this announcement to people you think might be a good fit. Feel free to contact me at the email below for details.
 Best Regards,
Martin Fischer

Manager of the Advanced Light Imaging and Spectroscopy Facility at Duke University

Description:
The newly established Advanced Light Imaging and Spectroscopy Facility (ALIS) at Duke University (http://alis.duke.edu) is accepting applications for the Manager position. The facility operates and develops cutting-edge instrumentation, which currently includes a lattice light-sheet microscope, a deep-tissue serial sectioning microscope, and a multimodal pump-probe microscope. The responsibilities of the Manager includes but is not limited to instrument operation, scheduling, maintenance, user training, and advising users on image and data analyses tasks. Furthermore, the manager works with the facility director and research groups to develop new and adapt existing instruments to advance their capabilities.
The successful candidate needs to have a masters or doctoral degree in an optics-related field (such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering). Experience in optical microscopy is required, as is a working knowledge in image data acquisition. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: biological sample handling, image analysis, computer programming, femtosecond lasers, or nonlinear optics. We require the candidate to have strong communication and analytical skills, to be self-motivated, and be able to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary environment. Interested applicants should provide a curriculum vitae, list of publications, description of research interests, and names of three references to the facility director (Prof. Martin Fischer, [hidden email]).

Clarification:
I just wanted to clarify the relationship of the new Advanced Light Imaging and Spectroscopy facility (ALIS) to the existing Light Microscopy Core Facility (LMCF) at Duke: LMCF is alive and well, Lisa Cameron (the LMCF director) is continuing to lead the group!
ALIS and LMCF will serve different roles - while LMCF will continue to operate commercial systems, ALIS will build (and develop) pre-commercial and custom systems. Together, LMCF and ALIS will cover most imaging needs in and around campus.
The manager we are looking for will run the scopes in ALIS, but will certainly also be involved in LMCF (especially while ALIS is ramping up). The manager will therefore be working with both Lisa and myself.
Best Regards,
  Martin Fischer
