Open Position: Postdoctoral Scientist - Microbial Ecology and Imaging
Description: A postdoctoral position in microbial ecology and imaging is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jessica Mark Welch in the Bay Paul Center (

We use fluorescence spectral imaging and other cutting-edge microscopy techniques, in conjunction with metagenomics, to study the organization of microbial communities in the human mouth and other environments. The successful candidate will interact closely with collaborators at other institutions as well as with the vibrant and collegial MBL scientific community. The position is for 2 years, and may be extended beyond this period contingent on securing additional funding.
Basic qualifications: A Ph.D. in biological sciences or a related field is required.
Preferred qualifications: Experience with confocal microscopy, machine learning, computational image analysis, bioinformatics, and/or microbiology is desirable.
Physical requirements: This position requires fine motor skills and willingness to work with potentially biohazardous materials and standard laboratory chemicals including fixatives and solvents.
