Please follow this link for applying: http://www.jobbnorge.no/job.aspx?jobid=80283 Full time temporary position as senior engineer at the Department of Biomedicine At the University of Bergen in Norway, Department of Biomedicine, a temporary position in the form of 100 % substitution as Senior Engineer is vacant for one (1) year starting in March/April 2010 with optional prolongation. The position is attached to the core facility Molecular Imaging Centre (MIC) http://www.uib.no/rg/mic. MIC is located in the Building for Basic Biological Research at the Haukeland University Hospital campus. MIC at present has an array of advanced imaging equipment. Relevant for the position in question are the Zeiss LSM 510 META confocal, Leica SP2 AOBS and SP5 confocal microscopes, Andor spinning disk confocal, Nikon TE2000 fluorescence microscope, Transmission Electron Microscope Jeol JEM-1230 and Scanning Electron Microscope Jeol JSM-7400F. The Senior Engineer will work with training of new users on the microscopes; follow up of existing users, reception of new projects and discussing these with researchers of various backgrounds and helping these getting started and directing them to the relevant equipment for their research as well as developing further MICs use of software for storage/retrieval and analysis of image data and providing guidance and training on such software. Further he/she will have the supervision with the equipment and communication with suppliers and technical service staff. Further chores may come into consideration for the position. Qualifications and qualities - Applicants must have higher education, at a minimum on master level or equivalent skill acquired through relevant practice and sufficient education. - A good level of knowledge about different fluorochromes and combinations of these, very good mastery of on or more of MICs microscopes as well as general abilities on most of the remaining equipment and their most used applications is a prerequisite for employment. - Generally good knowledge of IT tools and knowledge of software for storage/retrieval (Open Microscopy Environment and OMERO) and imaging analysis software (ImageJ, Imaris, MatLab) is also strongly desirable. - Good oral and written English skills are an absolute requirement - Applicants must be able to carry out their chores in an independent manner, be flexible, have good problem solving- and cooperative skills and be service minded in their interaction with MICs users.
