The Gladstone Histology & Light Microscopy Core houses a number of microscopy systems for various types of high-resolution imaging and image analysis of histological samples, including: -Brightfield, Phase Contrast, Polarized Light, & Epifluorescence Microscopy -Spinning Disk & Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy -Lightsheet Microscopy & Optical Projection Tomography (for whole embryo/organ imaging) -Whole slide imaging -Image analysis with Imaris, ImageScope, Stereoinvestigator and other software The Director would be responsible for managing a wide variety of histology services as well as providing training, consultation, support and equipment maintenance and grant writing for new equipment. The Director would manage a skilled team of histologists, microscopists and computational biologists. The successful candidate will be the initial point of contact for users seeking to use the Gladstone Histology and Light Microscopy core and will be responsible for advising them on sample preparation, the choice of microscope for their experiment and analytical strategy, and will provide training on the microscopes. This individual will also be responsible for overseeing and performing routine cleaning and maintenance of microscopes, testing of microscope performance, and generating billing and usage reports (some administrative assistance will be provided). Within these parameters, the successful candidate will have considerable freedom, which could include collaborations with Gladstone and UCSF users. Requirements: A Ph.D. in biology, physics, optics, or a related field is required and 3+ years of postdoctoral experience in a biomedical and/or research and development environment. Previous experience with microscopy is required, as is previous experience with equipment maintenance and training in a core facility environment. Previous experience with histology is preferred, however the main histology work will be completed by an experienced histotechnologist. Experience with image analysis tools (such as ImageJ and Imaris) is also preferred. Compensation will be determined based on experience. Position is open until filled. |
