http://listserv.acsu.buffalo.edu/cgi-bin/wa?S1=confocal We have an exciting job opening for an assistant at the light microscopy facility at Imperial College London: Background about the facility The Facility for Imaging by Light Microscopy (FILM) provides access to first class equipment for light microscopy, from widefield fluorescence microscopes to confocal and specialised two-photon and fluorescence lifetime imaging equipment. The facility is heavily used by a vibrant community of scientists from all areas of life sciences and related areas, with a rapidly expanding user base of already over 150 users from three different faculties. Aims of the facility are to underpin science by adequate training and support of users, maintain the quality and functionality of the equipment, keep up to date with new developments and introduce new technologies, organise and give advice on data management, analysis and presentation. Job description For this exciting position, solid experience in microscopy and technical skills are essential and the person must enjoy interacting with many different people and have a strong interest in life sciences. In detail, the assistant will participate in the following tasks: • overseeing the day-to-day running of the facility • giving technical support and specific advice on widefield and confocal microscopes • maintenance of the microscopes • periodical monitoring of technical standards of the equipment • depending on the qualifications, assistance in experiment planning, image acquisition, data analysis, website maintenance • interaction and support for a wide range of users of the facility The reward is working in an exciting international research environment in a world-renowned institute, with a large variety of fascinating imaging applications, and being located in a beautiful institute in one of the best parts of London, minutes away from museums, Hyde Park, central London and the Thames.
