We are looking for a curious and creative microscopist/optics engineer to help us develop new microscopes and to carry out studies using live cell imaging. Our lab designs proteins and small molecules to visualize and control signaling (see hahnlab.com) and is now working closely with engineering and computational biology groups.  In this position you will employ and develop diverse microscopy techniques, including extensions of single particle tracking, PALM/STORM, SIM-TIRF and lattice light sheet. You will work with scientists who are developing new molecules to extend the sensitivity and resolution of these approaches and with engineers (eg Legant, Superfine groups at UNC) developing novel instruments. We will also use more traditional instruments including spinning disk confocal, spin TIRF, and high content screening systems. Experience in the following areas would be helpful: microscopy, optical engineering, tissue culture, biosensors/optogenetics, cell biology. The candidate should be familiar with at least one of the following programming languages: MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, Java, R, etc.  Experience with Metamorph and Micromanager/ImageJ would be a plus. A PhD is preferred and a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline is required. Please send your CV and a letter describing your goals and interests to Klaus Hahn, [hidden email].
