DIRECTOR OF THE UNH INSTRUMENTATION CENTER The UNH Instrumentation Center (UIC) provides direct and easy access for faculty and other researchers to a wide variety of state-of-the-art instrumentation for analytical and educational purposes. It also serves as a resource for state and regional industries, institutions, and agencies. UIC staff provide expertise in instrumental analysis techniques, maintain and repair the instruments, operate instruments for clients and/or train them in operation, and assist in data analysis. RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost for Research, the Director of the UNH Instrumentation Center will be responsible for leading an emerging research and teaching oriented service center toward excellence; duties to include: Responsible for long-range planning and implementation for the Instrumentation Center, including estimation of future capital budget and instrumentation needs. Consult with UNH faculty and research staff on their research programs in order to anticipate needs for new instrumentation and to maximize use of current equipment. Lead proposals for new instrumentation; develop faculty consortia to seek new instrumentation, new core competencies (such as high throughput gene sequencing), and new approaches for instrumentation support. Secure funding from internal and external sources to obtain new instruments and to maintain and upgrade existing instruments. Administer the financial, administrative, and supervisory aspects of the UIC, including administration of budgets and instrument use fee structure. Support training and professional development for staff; support training for instrument users and students. Promote the UNH outreach mission by developing knowledge and awareness of other laboratories in the state and region for purposes of referrals and building partnerships, relationships, and information networks. Serve as a resource for state government and business and industry. Operate instruments and assist with data analysis infrequently, as necessitated by workload, expertise and/or staff coverage requirements. QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree in science or engineering with Ph.D. preferred. Minimum of three years managerial and supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience with operation of analytical instruments and application to research problems. Demonstrated success in obtaining external funding for scientific instruments. Experience with advanced instrumentation or in a university instrumentation center. Demonstrated ability to engage with and serve the advanced instrumentation needs of business and industry, as well as academia. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of constituents. SALARY: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
