Dear Colleagues

A Microstructure Technologist is required to manage the day to day operation of the National Food Imaging Centre (NFIC) providing microscopy analyses for both external clients (industry and academic) and internal Teagasc projects.

Teagasc is Ireland’s premier national body providing integrated research, advisory and training services to the agriculture and food industry and rural communities in Ireland. It’s mission is to support science-based innovation in the agri-food sector and wider bioeconomy to underpin profitability, competitiveness and sustainability.

The Food Chemistry & Technology Department at Moorepark (Fermoy, Co. Cork) researches dairy-based products and ingredients  working closely with industry and academic partners. The NFIC within this department is a unique strategic resource, comprising conventional optical, confocal, electron (including cryo) and atomic force microscopes dedicated to agri-food research and product troubleshooting/R&D.  The rapidly expanding Teagasc Food Programme and growing industry demand for these tools now requires a new permanent technologist to manage the workload, maintain the facility and help drive future development. The successful candidate will analyse a wide variety of materials including liquids, emulsions, powders and semi-solid materials, relating their observations to food behaviour and becoming part of an expanding research group focusing on dairy science and technology.  Duties include managing external client work, new method development, assisting with microstructure-related research projects, user-training and day to day management of the imaging facility. The ideal candidate will hold a relevant primary degree (e.g. food science, chemistry, material science etc.) plus significant microscopy experience. The post is permanent and full-time.

This is an exciting new opportunity for a suitable and enthusiastic candidate to play a key role at the forefront of food microstructure research. Please contact me ([hidden email]<mailto:[hidden email]>) for more information regarding this position quoting Ref: DS/1539.

Regards
Mark
