Dear colleagues and friends,

this is a last reminder to please fill out the large survey for Core
Facilities ( Light microscopy, EM and Image Analysis), which we put
together for the European Light Microscopy (ELMI) meeting in 2019.

We want to close the survey after the New Years day around the 8th of
January 2020. The survey aims for a snapshot of the current situation of
CFs worldwide. Data will then be prepared for publication.

After the last call 35 new responses were collected, so up to now 199
core facilities and  individual staff of CFs have answered the survey.
An overview picture of the responding countries you find here:
http://dx.doi.org/10.13140/RG.2.2.35496.11520

There are currently 50 non finished data sets, would be nice to have
that finished, too. If you need help to continue filling this out please
contact me.

As you can see from the graph, some European countries gave a lot of
feedback, but lately also US sites and Australia jumped in. But I know
there are many more CFs out in the US, and some European countries have
to wake up like Italy, Netherlands and also Spain, France and Germany
have more.... . I also would love to see some more answers from Asia, so
may be some of you could push that if you have firnde and collegues,
there.  What about Japanese imaging community?

This is the link to the survey:   http://elmisurvey.miap.eu

The survey collects data on many facilities’ issues, but also other
wishes and interests of CFs. A strong aspect is about Instrument
performance and reliability checks, service and maintenance, but also IT
issues.

We also send out to the main microscopy manufactures a questionary about
service issues. The collected answers you can find here:
https://miap.eu/special/elmi-cf-survey

In the letters you will find some informations about windows 7 to
Windows 10 upgrades of confocal systems, too.

With the survey we would like to collect a broad statistical and highly
relevant data basis. This will also help to get lively discussions and
future interactions at upcoming meetings and in the community.

We plan to make the whole data accessible for the community within
2019/2020. Your feedback will be used in a future, open source article
from us. Moreover, this data will help all of us in negotiation and
discussions with local funding bodies, companies or any type of lobbying
work. If we have enough statistical relevant data for single countries,
we will also make this available to the country networks.

The survey consist of six categories, all together to be completed in
about 30 minutes (that is the mean value from the 150 responders up to
now). But we think its a very good invested time for all of us.

Some questions can only be answered only by facility heads. So please
only answer questions, when you are sure about your knowledge for the
right answer. We did not want to have separate surveys for
heads/directors and staff.

Please use the opportunity to add additional points for discussion at
the end of the survey in the free text field.

The data collection is anonymous by default. Only statistics and network
information are collected by the web server. However, the combination of
questions might allow us to identify you indirectly. But we will keep
all these kind of personal data confidential and anonymously !

If you find mistakes in the survey, or have the feeling a certain
question is hard to understand and should be changed immediately, please
send a mail to: [hidden email]
