The Microscopy Core
Within the Icahn School of Medicine at the Mount Sinai, New York, the Microscopy Core facility is an ever expanding center for state-of-the-art imaging by Light microscopy and Image Analysis, supporting a wide range of research groups and applications, from basic research to clinical, pharmacology and personalized medicine. An extensive assortment of equipment is currently available, including confocal and widefield microscopes, an intravital 2photon microscope as well as a soon to be delivered Light Sheet. Furthermore, the facility has state of the art workstations for 3D-4D image analysis including commercial and open source analysis software, supporting science from project design, to acquisition, to processing and analysis.

Job Description
In order to meet the increasing needs of the microscopy facility, as new instruments are expected to arrive and be installed over the next months, the Core seeks to hire a service-oriented, highly motivated individual to join its current team. This provides an exciting and unique opportunity to get acquainted with diverse imaging techniques and work on image processing and analysis, in a multidisciplinary environment with researchers and medical doctors beside. It is an exciting position, and a unique career development opportunity, as the candidate will have the chance to be involved with a breadth of applications, in a dynamic environment offered in one of the biggest research institutes and hospitals in the heart of New York City.
Responsibilities Include

* Train staff, researchers and graduate students on a variety of microscopes.
* Ensure smooth operation and basic maintenance of certain microscopes and equipment.
* Record keeping and track of usage.
* Help scientists design their imaging experiment on the appropriate imaging system and build image analysis pipelines and data flows using a variety of open source and commercial software packages (ImageJ, Arivis 4D, Imaris, etc).
* Be available for a "walk-in" advisory service for scientists to guide them to the correct imaging solution and occasionally assist them with setting up their imaging settings.

Essential Requirements
* BSc in Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or engineering. A master's degree or higher would be desirable but not required.
* Basic experience in light microscopy and an understanding of fundamentals of image processing. Candidates with experience on ImageJ or other similar software, or programming experience would be preferred.
* An enthusiastic approach to problem solving and a desire and passion for learning, eager to explore new techniques.
* Fluency in English and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to work in a team but also unsupervised.
