Position available: Academic Technician Level ‘A’ (Full time, permanent)

The LNMA is a new, purpose-built facility based at the Instituto de
Biotecnología (Biotechnology Institute), part of the Morelos Campus of the
Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México or UNAM (National Autonomous
University of Mexico). It was founded as a joint initiative between UNAM and
the national funding council, Conacyt. Its purpose is to provide advanced
microscopy services to the scientific community in Mexico and Latin America in
all sectors (academic, clinical and industrial) based on an open-access core
facility model. It is the only such centre in Mexico, and one of the only
purpose-built microscopy facilities in Latin America.

This is a full-time permanent position available for immediate start. The post is
provided by UNAM and comes with a full university pay-and-benefits package,
including medical and life insurance.

The successful applicant will be expected to join a small but dedicated team
working to provide the highest-class of microscopy service available in Latin
America.

Profile of successful applicant:

Essential:
- Minimum qualification to Masters degree level
- Familiarity with confocal microscopy techniques

Desirable:
- Familiarity with multiphoton microscopy techniques, and/or TIRFM
techniques
- Experience of working in a Core Microscopy facility
- Image analysis expertise

This position would suit a well-motivated individual with strong interpersonal
skills. Principal duties are provision and assistance with microscopy experiments
to LNMA users, basic training of users, simple maintenance duties, and
assistance with organization of training and educational events (workshops and
courses).

- Upright multiphoton (Mai-Tai Deepsee) Olympus BX61 microscope with 6-
line CW confocal capability
- Inverted multiphoton (MaiTai Deepsee) Olympus IX81 microscope with 6-
line CW confocal capability
- CellTIRF IX81-based (Olympus) 3-laser line total internal reflection
microscope.
- MVX10 Macroview (Olympus) microscope
- Zeiss 510-META confocal
- Nikon-based single cell luminescence microscope with single-photon
detection capability.

The facility has ample space for future expansion as further equipment
purchases are made. Further staff will be added to the facility as positions are
made available.

The LMNA is situated in the city of Cuernavaca in the state of Morelos, México.
Cuernavaca is famous as the “City of Eternal Spring” and is blessed with an
extremely pleasant year-round climate (see

LNMA is within the Insituto de Biotecnología (IBt), part of the National
Autonomous University (UNAM). The IBt is one of the top-ranked research
institutes in the country, with 40 independent research groups working in such
diverse fields as Molecular Medicine, Molecular Microbiology, Developmental
Biology, Molecular Physiology, Plant Physiology, Biocatalysis and Cellular
Engineering. UNAM is one of only three universities in Latin America ranked
within the top 200 universities globally, and is one of the largest universities in
