Position available - microscopy specialist

A position is available for a microscopy specialist in the Optical Imaging core at the University of Texas Medical Branch (Galveston, TX) . The job involves training and assisting users of the facility with the goal of conducting advanced and conventional optical imaging studies in various research fields including neuroscience, cancer and infectious diseases.

The position involves a broad range of responsibilities associated with assisting users with the microscopes and operating of the imaging core.  The applicant will have the opportunity to work with leading investigators in the fields of neuroscience, cancer and infectious diseases while providing them access to enabling imaging technology and resources including state of the art confocal and multiphoton microscopes.  Applicants with a wide range of scientific backgrounds (BS-Ph.D.) and interest in imaging and microscopy will be considered for this position.  Candidates must be highly motivated, independent workers willing to learn to operate sophisticated equipment. Training will be provided.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Performs microscopy and analysis, sample preparation, data processing
  • Training users on lab equipment in the imaging core as well as data analysis tools
  • Collaboration with faculty and users on research projects
  • Trouble-shooting imaging problems
  • Monitors instrument’s performance. Performs routine maintenance. Assists with repairs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD
  • Research experience with microscopes and imaging software
  • Excellent problem Solving and communication skills

 

Preferred Experience. 

Though not required, since training can be provided, preference will be given to those having:

  • Experience with confocal and/or multiphoton microscopy

Salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience.
