The Confocal and Specialized Microscopy Core at Columbia University
Medical Center is seeking a Staff Associate. This person will advise
and train users and provide technical oversight of laser scanning
confocal (two-photon and one-photon excitation), total internal
reflection (TIRF), laser capture microdissection and microirradiation,
and deconvolution/spinning-disk confocal imaging systems in an
advanced microscopy core facility serving all of Columbia University.
Primary responsibilities will be one-on-one consultation, training and
assistance of users in image acquisition, processing and analysis.
Additional responsibilities include maintenance and troubleshooting of
imaging equipment, computer hardware and software for image
acquisition and analysis; purchasing supplies, overseeing instrument
schedules and user fees; and developing macros to meet specific user
needs.
Collaborative studies with the Director or other researchers will also
be encouraged for motivated individuals.
Requires a PhD in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or
equivalent combination of education, training and experience with
fluorescence and confocal microscopy, including sample preparation,
image acquisition, and image analysis; excellent interpersonal and
communication skills; motivation to maintain a broad knowledge of
state-of-the-art imaging technology; and the flexibility to interact
with a diverse group of researchers.
