We are looking for a programmer/scientist to join our team in Ron Vale’s lab at UC San Francisco working on the Micro-Manager software project (http://micro-manager.org). Please forward this message to anyone who may be interested in joining us!

Micro-Manager is a free open-source software package for microscope control, supported by the National Institutes of Health. Micro-Manager enables scientists to perform basic and advanced image acquisition tasks (snapshots, multi-wavelength images, video, time-series, 3D imaging) and has a well-designed user interface that allows extension of the software and custom applications. Micro-Manager serves hundreds of laboratories around the world, is installed on thousands of microscope systems, and its popularity is growing rapidly. This success is fueled by close interactions between software engineers and scientists at the UCSF Mission Bay campus in San Francisco.

The incumbent will closely collaborate with scientists and hardware manufacturers, develop and maintain device control code, work on the graphical user interface, provide customer support for scientists at UCSF and around the world, develop software for new imaging applications, help refine scripting interfaces and documentation for developers and users, and be involved in all other aspects of the project.

We expect the incumbent to have experience working on large software projects, to be fluent in Java and C++, to have experience with hardware device programming, user interface programming, excellent communication skills, and be an enthusiastic problem solver and team player. Candidates with experience in scientific imaging, data analysis and open source projects are especially encouraged to apply.

This is an exciting position for anyone with interest in open source software and microscopy and will provide extensive networking opportunities.  The position is for a period of 3 years at the University of California, San Francisco, Mission Bay Campus. Salary: Commensurate with experience. UCSF provides a highly  competitive benefits package.
To apply, please visit http://www.ucsfhr.ucsf.edu/careers and Reference Job Req # 38721BR, or use the direct link: http://tinyurl.com/b8v3t54. Please include your CV, a cover letter and three professional references.
