Dear colleagues

I have an exciting post-doc position available in my lab. If you are interested, get in touch!

https://www.nature.com/naturejobs/science/jobs/623441-post-doctoral-researcher-in-super-resolution-microscopy-of-bacterial-cell-division

Do you want to push the limits of nanoscale optical imaging? Would you like to figure out fundamental principles of bacterial cell division?

Our interdisciplinary lab investigates fundamental principles of cell division and spatial organization in bacteria. To achieve this we develop novel experimental methods based on single molecule & super-resolution microscopy, microfabrication and microfluidics. E.g.: Science 355 739-743 (2017), PNAS 111 4566-4571 (2014), eLife e18647 (2016).

This project will use super-resolution microscopy to reveal how the bacterial cytoskeleton orchestrates cell division. We seek a PDRA to push the resolution and quantitative abilities of super-resolution microscopy, especially single molecule localization microscopy, and to use these methods to reveal the organization and ultrastructure of bacterial cytoskeletal filaments. This project will ultimately inform the search for novel antibiotics that directly target bacterial cell division.

This post is for 3 years, and is funded by the Wellcome Trust. The position is based at the Centre for Bacterial Cell Biology within the Institute for Cell and Molecular Biosciences at Newcastle University.

The applicant should be in possession of, or nearing the finalisation of, a PhD in biophysics, microbiology, biochemistry, optics or another relevant field. Previous experience in single molecule fluorescence techniques and/ or super-resolution microscopy is preferable.

For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Seamus Holden with CV ([hidden email]<mailto:[hidden email]>).
