Structured illumination microscopy (SIM) is an important novel fluorescent imaging technique to achieve super resolution in light microscopy. In SIM a series of fluorescent microscopic images is obtained using structured illumination patterns which are translated/rotated in a fixed scheme between recordings. In theory, SIM provides mathematically reconstructed images with a two times increased resolution in all dimensions, allowing to distinguish objects up to eight times smaller than with conventional light microscopy. In practice, SIM is challenged by imperfections of the microscope system and aberrations caused by the sample and embedding media. The project involves the development of novel methods and reconstruction algorithms to overcome these problems (TU Delft), and their implementation and application in current research focussing on functional ultrastructure of the cell (Erasmus MC). Requirements Two positions are open for post-docoral fellows, each for a period of two years. Position 1: for development of reconstruction algorithms (TU Delft) we are looking for a physicist with a PhD in imaging technology and affinity for its application in (medical) biology. Position 2: for implementation and application (Erasmus MC) of reconstruction algorithms we are searching for a (bio)physicist/biologist with a strong background in development and application of microscopic imaging technology in (medical) biology. Conditions of employment Appointment will be according to the terms of the Collective Labour Agreement of University Medical Centres (CAO-UMC), initially for the duration of one year. An extension of one year is possible after positive evaluation of capabilities and compatibility. The gross salary depends on education and experience, and is between € 2498,= and € 3961,= per month, based on fulltime employment (36 h/week, salary scale 10). For more information, please contact prof. dr. A. B. Houtsmuller (phone: +31646154564, e-mail: [hidden email]), or view our websites and relevant links therein (erasmusoic, houtsmuller or imagingtudelft). To apply, please e-mail a motivation letter and a detailed CV to ms. M. A. van den Akker ([hidden email]) |
