Postdoctoral position:

A 2-year full-time postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Florida in an islet biology laboratory. The candidate will participate in a JDRF-funded project exploring the functional roles of the sympathetic nervous system on human islet alpha-cells and neurotransmission in health and type 1 diabetes. The Principle Investigator is a member of the UF Diabetes Institute, a highly ranked center of diabetes excellent for interdisciplinary and translational research.

The applicant should have a PhD degree in neuroscience, cell biology, bioengineering, or related filed with an excellent record of accomplishment for innovative research. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual with a strong background in a variety of imaging and molecular biology approaches. Position will offer an excellent opportunity to advanced career paths and to obtain training in new methodological approaches, including tissue optical clearing (CLARITY, PACT, Expansion Microscopy), Lightsheet imaging, islet laser microdissection, and RNAseq. Cell culture, 3D cell cultures, live cell imaging, transfections, Western Blot assays, flow cytometry, and related techniques will also be used.  In addition, this individual must be willing to be part of a collaborative team covering multiple approaches including neuroanatomy/physiology, biomedical engineering, immunology, and molecular biology.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the anticipated start date for this position is November 2018.

Job requirements:
Experience in the peripheral autonomic nervous system and advanced microscopy skills will be preferred. The candidate should have a strong background in implementing and conducting experiments using all of the cell and molecular biology tools necessary as well as statistical analyses of experimental data. Candidate should have the ability to work independently and efficiently but also work well as a part of a team and possess strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Please send a cover letter and curriculum vitae along with the contact details for three references to Dr. Martha Campbell-Thompson, [hidden email].  The University of Florida is an equal opportunity employer.
