Dear Listers,

We have an ongoing Olympus ZDC1 problem which has troubled us for nearly
a month. I hope the list can help us identify the source of the problem and
lead to a solution.

We have an Andor Revolution spinning disk (Yokogawa) system connected to
an Olympus IX81 inverted microscope stand with ZDC1 installed.  The system
works fine until about 4 week ago, the ZDC failed during a routine time-lapse
scan and cause error indicator flashing on the Olympus UCB controller. We
have to switch off the UCB control box to erase the error flag.  Since then the
ZDC kept failing under various conditions (listed below),

A.    We tested on oil and water objectives.
B.    We tested on different chamber temperature:  37C and room T.
C.   We tried different ZDC settings.
D.   It seems the failure of ZDC happened at random time point. Sometime it
failed after 5 minutes of the start of a time-lapse scan; sometime it runs OK
for an overnight scan then failed in the morning.
E.     We suspect it is caused by electronic interference with other equipment,
so we grounded the UCB control box. We changed the cable coupling to put
UCB on its own dedicated squid, but it didn’t solve the problem.

I wonder if any group with ZDC1 had experienced similar problem before, any
suggestion are welcome.

 Best

Lai

Hi Lai

Yes we have had that luck too...
Ask Andor to update (with a CD, not just downloading the file) the Olympus software which runs in the background of iQ. That solved it for us. Pity it took one year...

Med vänlig hälsning / Best regards

Sylvie
