Dear Confocal listserv,

QBI 2017 - who is attending? ... what hotel are out of towners staying in (I have not booked yet)?

Is light sheet going to be hotter than PALM/STORM? Are any confocal images going to be shown? Should I try to stay awake for the sleeping sickness talk? (just kidding). Is anyone going to bet for or against me understanding STReM? Is "coloring books" the reading level of the Presidential library the closing reception and dinner is being held in? ... oops, scratch that, G.H.W. is the elder Bush. Is Rob Singer's presentation going to be under or over 150 slides? (I still remember [a little bit of] the 3 hour talk he gave at a CSHL course -- I'm pretty sure that one was over).

Here is a summary one of the organizers sent me:

The 2017  international conference Quantitative BioImaging (www.quantitativebioimaging.com) will be held at Texas A&M in College Station, 5-7 January 2017.

The conference features many leading international researchers in modern microscopy techniques, data analysis, software development and cell biological and biomedical applications. The conference was previously held in Paris and Delft and will return to Europe, Goettingen, Germany. This is an excellent opportunity for our colleagues, students and post-docs to learn about the latest advances of

advances in microscopy, including  single molecule and superresolution microscopy, light sheet microscopy etc.

The program consists of

 - 3 key note lectures by E. Stelzer, M. Zerial and R. Singer,

- tutorial lectures on tracking, point spread function engineering and single molecule clustering.

- 2 mini symposia on single molecule techniques for the analysis of nuclear pore complexes and image analysis in biopharma.

- workshop on software development for bioimage analysis.

- invited and contributed presentations covering a wide range of topics from single molecule techniques to new optical approaches in microscopy.

- extensive poster sessions.

The registration site is now open (www.quantitativebioimaging.com). Please register soon as the spaces are limited and in past years we could not accommodate all who wanted to attend.

Looking forward to seeing at QBI 2017 next January.

//

to which I'll add, the online version of the schedule is 4 pages for the days:

I hope to see everyone at QBI,

Sincerely,

George

George,

Looks cool but a bit "old", but how the L-Sheet data being analyzed, any progress, any good software packages that do it quick via GPU clusters (utilizing 400+ CPU nodes will be a solid step ahead)? I know you like CUDA. What's about OpenCL? Are any of the 2P data finally got properly sampled, by an "accident" (2-3x Nyquist), in sculpted light microscopy?... Does it (image analysis business) still function in heavily under-funded "mode"? Are there any BIG names from Dresden coming over to rural Texas?
Who is responsible for organizing the 'Workshop on Software Development for BioImage Analysis'? Is there anything SOLID that has been already available in either public or "pricey" domains?

If you give a great answer, I will come over to the Southern State.

Cheers,

Vitaly
