The course runs from May 16th-22nd at the Mount Desert Island Biological Labs in Arcadia National Park in Maine and we still have slots unfilled. The toys this year continue to increase in number and are directed towards our continued interest in cutting edge approaches. They include all types of confocal, live cell, and wide field machines from all the major vendors (Leica, Zeiss, Nikon, and Olympus). Software solutions include all the company specific platforms as well as Metamorph and Imaris. These devices are supported by the best group of industry faculty anywhere! This year we will be making a bigger plunge into Super-Resolution methods, and will have STORM,PALM, GSD approaches available as well as the very cool and just introduced Leica 3X STED (for the uninitiated this allows STED quality resolution in all three axes not just x and y) of course you will be welcome as usual to bring your own specimens to try out on this and all the other systems. If you or any of your colleagues are interested in course content, faculty or would like to enroll please go to http://www.mdibl.org/courses/Quantitative_Fluorescence_Microscopy/159/ if you have any other specific questions please contact me at [hidden email]<mailto:[hidden email]> S Simon Watkins Ph.D Professor and Vice Chair Cell Biology Professor Immunology Director Center for Biologic Imaging University of Pittsburgh Bsts 225 3550 terrace st Pittsburgh PA 15261 Www.cbi.pitt.edu<http://Www.cbi.pitt.edu/> 412-352-2277 |

Top notch instruction (both academic and industry) and all the latest devices. Great camaraderie among students and staff. I made some great contacts there that last to today. And, I must add, that area of Maine is breathtakingly beautiful (Acadia National Park is a bike ride away, for instance). I took the class around 2001, and all this years later I still consider it a significant contribution to my career and I hold many great memories... If I had the money and time, I would definitely go... Not only to see this Leica 3X STED in action, but also to go back to Acadia National Park! "breathtakingly beautiful" is an understatement... Best Regards, Pete P.S. While I was there for vacation in 2011, I stayed in Hancock Maine in a farmhouse. It was near Tidal Falls which has the highest tide in the Continental US (3 m), luckily I captured it in a time lapse which you can see here: http://vimeo.com/28231053 On Wed, March 26, 2014 17:52, Vergara, Leoncio A. wrote: <|> ***** <|> To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: <|> http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy <|> Post images on http://www.imgur.com and include the link in your posting. <|> ***** <|> <|> I agree 100%.
