Hi,

We're trying to keep a BioRad 1024 alive. Recently we had the 568nm channel
go green (zero). Laser is fine. Switching the power supplies causes both
channels to go green. Haven't yet switched only the little boards on the
PMT as it requires a bit of small soldering. Looking for some solid advice
before getting into it too heavily. The green will go to gray, black, or
red with change in offset. Anyone have any relevant BioRad PMT experience
to share? Thanks.

My recollection, based on modifying one in José Feijó's lab, is that there is a spare channel in the electronics, ie it will take 4 detectors but only has 3.  We used it to add an additional pmt for transmission detection (the normal transmission detector on a 1024 is just a photodiode).  We had to get one of those 'little boards' (preamps) which at the time we were able to source through a Zeiss back-door.  So you may have another channel to try.  However, if switching green & red pmts made both channels blank you would seem to have two faults - one in the pmt or preamp, and one in the electronics.   Nuno may be able to offer further advice.  He may even have some spares, since I don't think the 1024 is in use any more.

Hi,

I have some technical sketches. Most likely the preamps are dead. Contact me off list for more details.

Cheers Guy!
