To join, leave or search the confocal microscopy listserv, go to: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A0=confocalmicroscopy ***** To the confocal community, The 2011 Northwest Regional Cytometry Meeting, “Cytometry data: Mining, modeling, and Management”, will be held at OHSU, March 24 – 26. The website with links to the brochure and schedule can be accessed by googling 'ohsu ohrc' or '2011 nwrcm'. Registration includes the March 24th reception dinner and March 25th lunch. The website also includes online registration. Walk-ins to talks are welcome. The NWRCM is an umbrella which includes the FICCS computational cytometry meeting. In consideration of the overlap between the computational cytometry theme of the FICCS meeting and the bioinformatics focus of the 2011 NWRCM, it’s been decided to consolidate. This consolidation may, in fact, be something of a trial balloon. The focus of the cytometry community for the next few years is likely to be bioinformatics, and discussions bringing together computational methods and applications are quite relevant. Thus, though a decision has not been taken in regard to subsequent years, in 2011 the FICCS meeting is consolidated into the NWRCM. The 2011 NWRCM has benefited significantly from consolidation. Please check out the augmented program – talks have been added that will appeal to the purest of computational cytometrists, while keeping the applied focus of the NWRCM. I believe this arrangement strikes the right balance, and brings together two sometimes separate worlds that need to be closer and in stronger communication. Bringing the FICCS meeting and NWRCM together is very much in the spirit of the objectives set out for the 2011 NWRCM as stated in its prospectus. The FICCS sessions are split into subgroups of –omics, imaging, and flow related bioinformatics, in this order. Attendees coming for Garry Nolan’s NWRCM talk at 3pm on March 24 may wish to arrive early enough to catch the flow related FICCS talks starting at 1pm, while those interested in wider –omics or imaging perspectives would be advised to arrive the evening before. The roster is impressive. In addition to the roster, the NWRCM presents many other opportunities: Two FloCyte courses (“Data analysis” and “Standardization” – go to FloCyte courses for FloCyte course descriptions and registration), a wide array of vendor talks, and the Saturday software practicums. Deadline on poster abstracts has been extended to March 4 – send abstracts to [hidden email] if you are interested. Some the events and courses were put together expressly for this meeting, including BD’s vendor talk on PermKey and Adam Triester’s course “FlowJo for integrators”. With 25 vendors participating, there are few better opportunities to find out what’s new and to test-drive equipment and software. The program is full, and as befits a full program there’s also opportunity for a bit of socializing and fun, Friday night on the town. Join us. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see you in March. Allan Kachelmeier 2011 NWRCM coordinator [hidden email] |
