Hi Nikos,
There are plugins for neurite outgrowth analysis in ImageJ and FIJI-
- NeuriteTracer
NeuriteTracer: A novel ImageJ plugin for automated quantification of neurite outgrowth,
Journal of Neuroscience Methods 168 (2008) 134–139
by Madeline Pool et al.
- Simple Neurite Tracer
(
http://imagej.net/Simple_Neurite_Tracer)
- Automated Analysis of NeuronJ Tracing Data
Cytometry A. 2009 April ; 75(4): 371–376. doi:10.1002/cyto.a.20660
by Jonathan Popko et al.
- NeurphologyJ
NeurphologyJ: An automatic neuronal morphology quantification method and its
application in pharmacological discovery
BMC Bioinformatics201112:230
DOI: 10.1186/1471-2105-12-230
by Shinn-Ying Ho et al.
- NeuriteQuant
NeuriteQuant: An open source toolkit for high content screens of neuronal Morphogenesis
BMC Neuroscience201112:100
DOI: 10.1186/1471-2202-12-100
by Leif Dehmelt et al.
- WIS-NeuroMath
WIS-NeuroMath enables versatile high throughput analyses of neuronal processes
Dev Neurobiol. 2013 Mar;73(3):247-56. doi: 10.1002/dneu.22061
by Rishal I et al.
Software page:
https://www.weizmann.ac.il/vet/IC/software/wis-neuromathEach of the above has some positives (free) and negatives like 3D, batch processing,
sample number, structural complexity, staining parameters, etc.
If you have some money to spend there are commercial software like Neurolucida from
MBF Bioscience (
http://www.mbfbioscience.com/neuron-tracing-and-reconstruction)
- IMARIS (Filament tracer tool embedded in Software) and AMIRA can also do tracing
(depends on what you want)
No commercial interest. Good luck.
