We used to use mineral oil to cover our samples but had a batch go "bad" on
us. We wasted about 2 weeks trying to figure out what was wrong and why the
cells were dying and it was the oil. After that we started storing it in 20
ml aliquots in dark bottles and that seemed to help it last. I still prefer
not to use it if it can be avoided.
We also did an experiment with Leibowitz CO2 indept media and while the
cells stayed alive they did not divide over a period of 2-4 days. We did not
test any other CO2 indep. media but I would use caution with these products
depending on what cellular processes you are studying.
Sincerely,
Claire
