use a program that can read the native leica files so you dont lose the meta data like pixel size.

some progs can open lzw tiff files...  and read the leica diles eg:

the Fiji distribution of ImageJ has pretty much everything you will need day to day.

If your data are from an SP5 then metadata are stored in the .lei file not in the exported .tif file (metadata are exported together with your images as xml files which you can open in a web browser). I find I can open exported .tif images from LAS AF Lite with almost any imaging programme. Irfanview can batch convert most file types. Picture Publisher and Paint.net are both free and should be able to open these images.
