Re: CONFOCALMICROSCOPY Software tool to draw endocytic pathways

Hi Dries,
If you need a freeware program that does most of the exact same things as Adobe Illustrator, you might also checkout Inkscape.
http://www.inkscape.org/
In the past several years there has been an explosion of freeware that can do many of the same things that much more costly programs do. My favorite example is Zotero http://www.zotero.org, which is a freeware reference manager akin to EndNote or RefWorks, but is totally free.
If you aren't already familiar with Illustrator, it might be worth learning how to use something else that is free and easily downloaded on whatever computer you want it for, including those of your students or at home.
In that regard, it's a good idea to try out R http://www.r-project.org for any statistical work you are doing. Again, R is free, and is quickly becoming the system that statisticians seem to prefer.
Cheers,
Brian

Dear all,

I was wondering if you could help me to find a decent tool to draw endocytic
tools or cell processes?
Which software packages are often used and hopefully free to download to
draw endosomes, plasmamembrane, proteins, cel organelles, etc?

Examples are Biodraw Ultra, Coreldraw, .. ?

Thanks in advance,

Dries.

Dear Dries,

I am part time meical illustrator and would like to recommend Adobe
Illustrator. It might take some time to get trained but once you learn
the basics you find it very useful  for all your preseantations.

regarding software packages to ownload biology samples and shapes:

Please do check out : http://www.motifolio.com/

These are basically powerpoint packs with Ready-to-use Biology,
Anatomy, Signaling Pathway, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology diagrams

Best Wishes,

Re: CONFOCALMICROSCOPY Software tool to draw endocytic pathways

I use Inkscape and I find it works fairly well.  Take the time to go
through the included tutorials though, as some of the drawing tools
have complex behaviors.  The tutorials explain the nuances of the
different tools fairly well.
