The Waitt Advanced Biophotonics Core Facility is recruiting for a Microscopy & Informatics Specialist to join a vibrant state-of-the-art research hub at the Salk Institute.

Position Description:
The Microscopy & Informatics Specialist will work collaboratively with the other light and electron microscopy specialists in the Biophotonics core in aiding the Director in the operation of the Core Facility and providing the best service to the Salk research community. This is a multi-faceted job that involves the following components:
User Training - educating facility users in the use of facility instrumentation and methods used therein.
Research Design & Participation - aiding Director and independently assisting users in design of experiments.
Image Processing & Data Analysis - specialist will undertake image processing training, algorithm development, and collaborative data analysis.
Core Facility Maintenance & Management - maintaining the functionality of facility instrumentation.
Data Collection & Presentation - collecting and managing data and helping to prepare data for publication & presentation.
Education:
A Bachelors degree in a a biological, biophysical sciences, or biomedical engineering is required.
A PhD degree in biological, biophysical sciences, or biomedical engineering is preferred

Experience:
Required:
A minimum of 5 years biological, biophysical sciences, or biomedical engineering background with experience in light microscopy.
Microscopy experience in a core environment.
Scientific programming skills (MATLAB).
Tissue culture and live cell culture experience.
Preferred:
Tissue preparation and histology experience.
Special Requirements:
Able to work a flexible schedule based on research needs and deadlines. Must be willing to submit to a personal background check.

Physical Requirements:
Requires constant seeing, adjusting focus, touching and feeling, keying, grasping, reading, writing, talking,hearing, handling,reasoning and communicating.
